AI citation tracking
Know which URLs the engines actually cite for your market — and reverse-engineer what earns a citation.
AnswerMonk is a GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) intelligence platform that measures how brands appear in AI answers from ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
AI citation tracking shows you the source layer behind AI answers: for every prompt in your market's panel, which URLs did ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini attach as citations, what kinds of pages are they, and which domains keep winning? Citations are how engines justify their recommendations — so the cited set for your market is, in practice, the reading list the engines trust. If your pages are not on it, this is where you find out what is.

What does citation tracking show?
It shows four things, all extracted from recorded answers rather than modelled. First, the top cited URLs for your market — the specific pages engines keep pointing to. Second, the page types behind them: comparison posts, listicles, review platforms, documentation, forums — the formats that over-index among cited sources in your category. Third, the authority domains: the third-party sites whose presence in an answer repeatedly accompanies a brand being named. Fourth, the change: each monthly re-run diffs the cited set, so you see which sources entered, which dropped, and whether your own URLs moved.
Why do citations differ per engine?
Because the engines retrieve differently, and some answers cite nothing at all. Gemini leans on live retrieval, ChatGPT mixes retrieval with memory, and a meaningful share of answers across engines is memory-only — in our 2,994-probe study, 30.1% of answers cited zero sources. AnswerMonk records citations per engine rather than pooling them, so you can see, for example, that Gemini cites review platforms in your market while ChatGPT leans on two editorial listicles — two different problems with two different fixes. The recording method is on the methodology page.
How does this improve your AI visibility?
By turning "publish more content" into a specific target list. If the cited set in your market is dominated by comparison pages on two authority domains, the action plan is concrete: get your brand accurately represented on those domains, and build the page type the engines demonstrably cite. AnswerMonk's content focus recommendations are reverse-engineered from exactly this data — what engines cite in your market, not generic best practice. A practical walkthrough is at how to improve AI citations.
Is this part of monitoring?
Yes. Citation intelligence — top cited URLs, page types, authority domains, and what changed — is a standing section of the $19/mo per brand monthly monitoring report (early access), alongside appearance tracking and the refreshed action plan. Details are on the pricing page, and the free audit above includes a first citation-source breakdown with no signup.

Citations explain the sources; the ChatGPT visibility tracker measures whether you appear in the answers themselves, and AI share of voice compares your appearance rate against competitors across all three engines.
